Budgetary fraud

2025. March 27.

Dr. Balázs Gellér, attorney-at-law, spent a week in Ireland, where he participated in discussions on international budgetary fraud. Together with his colleagues, he examined the intersections of financial and tax law with criminal law. From this perspective, Dr. Balázs Gellér, a recognized expert in the field, presented the issue of budgetary fraud as regulated under Section 396 of the Hungarian Criminal Code. As a highly regarded professional, he acts as a defense attorney in several high-profile budgetary fraud cases. The Hungarian approach to criminal law does not differ significantly from international trends; however, challenges remain, including differences between national legal systems and language barriers. Another key issue is ensuring the protection of the presumption of innocence, which is explicitly stated in Section 1 of the Hungarian Code of Criminal Procedure: "No one shall be considered guilty until their guilt has been established by a final decision of the court." Dr. Balázs Gellér’s legal practice focuses primarily on representing clients in economic crimes, including fraud, embezzlement, misappropriation, and defamation. Additionally, he is actively involved in the general protection of suspects' fundamental rights, the submission of private prosecutions, and victim representation.
